This interactive class includes an overview of lateral violence in the workplace, focusing on the recognition of the problem, core costs, and options for intervention. Attendees will leave with an improved understanding of how to prevent and manage lateral violence in the workplace, while also building confidence in how to create an environment that is incompatible with violence.

A practical, effective, and neurodiverse approach to the needs of people experiencing comprehension, communication, decision-making, and behavioral issues associated with cognitive disorders and mental illnesses.

This workshop will include an overview of the tactics needed to keep staff safe. In healthcare, the need for physical restraint can be one of the most dangerous situations emotionally, mentally, and physically for all involved. Additionally, improper restraint use can lead to serious sanctions governing and accrediting bodies. This workshop will highlight how to explain the use of physical restraint when it was both justifiable and desirable.

Attendees will see the minute-by-minute breakdown of active shooter events and learn about the critical 7 survival time clocks. We will address the timelines of an Active-Shooter attack, how to conduct risk and threat assessments, identify at-risk threats, and what you can do to help manage each phase of the event. Attendees will also learn how to coordinate with staff to work alone or in teams, and in alignment with best practices for working in conjunction with local law enforcement and first responders
